An open letter to Seth Meyers from a CBD lover

An open letter to Seth Meyers from a CBD lover

Dear Seth,

My name is Wilfred, and I am one of your biggest fans. I loved you on SNL; I love your work on late Night With Seth Meyers, I even enjoyed The Short Halloween. I'm not a super fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I do appreciate your work.

My favorite bit of Seth Meyers' content is A Closer Look. For those who are unfamiliar with Seth's work, this is a short segment lasting anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes, where Seth really goes into one of the day’s main stories.

It’s usually funny, witty, insightful, and embodies everything that I love about you.

Why usually and not all the time?

Before April 2nd, if you had asked me what I thought about A Closer Look, I would have said it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. But since April 2nd, I've had some reservations.

Why April 2nd?

On April 2nd’s edition of A Closer Look, Seth, while taking a dig at President Trump, he compared him to CBD oil. Seth’s exact words were, “You work less than CBD oil.”

I was shocked, hurt, and offended but honestly not surprised. In previous editions of A Closer Look, you’ve made your opinions on CBD abundantly clear. You don’t think it works and consider it to be the blue balls of marijuana simply because it doesn’t get you high. (Seth, have you heard of the Entourage Effect, and I’m not talking about the show on HBO?)

But here’s the thing Seth, I think you are totally missing the mark when it comes to CBD. CBD does a lot.

What is CBD?

For those who are reading this and are not familiar with CBD, here’s a brief explanation of CBD and why it’s important

Excerpt from an article I had written

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of many compounds found in the cannabis plant. CBD is a significant part of cannabis, and according to research, it makes up nearly 40% of the extract from the plant.

What is the entourage effect?

(Not the HBO show)

The entourage effect is one of the coolest features of not only CBD but also the entire cannabis plant. The effect happens when different compounds of the cannabis plant (did you know that there are more than 500 compounds in the plant) work together to produce an effect that is greater than that of a single compound on its own. The entourage effect is the perfect example of unity is strength.

Why do people use CBD?

Different people use CBD for different reasons, and the most common ones are chronicled in the graph below.

However, the greatest use of CBD, in my opinion, is in the creation of Epidiolex, an FDA approved drug used to treat seizures caused by two forms of epilepsy: Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome.

So Seth, is this a product that does nothing?

You have a large platform

As the host of one of the most popular late-night shows, you have a platform that many only dream about. And when you use your platform to belittle CBD and speak out against it, you are actively stopping people from trying it out. You’re stopping people from experiencing the benefits of CBD.

Instead of belittling CBD, you should encourage people to try it for themselves and make their own conclusions.

And maybe you should try it for yourself as well, CBD gummies are a great way to get into the CBD culture.

CBD is not a punchline.

PS: I’d love to appear on your show alongside some of my more medically inclined friends to talk about CBD.
